Dr. J. G. Weisend II


John Weisend received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering & Engineering Physics from the University of Wisconsin -Madison, where he investigated engineering applications of He II. He has worked at the SSC Laboratory, the Centre D¡¯Etudes Nucleaires Grenoble and the Deutsches Elecktronen-Synchrotron Laboratory (DESY). He was most recently the director of the Conventional & Experimental Facilities Dept. at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). He is currently on temporary assignment from SLAC to the National Science Foundation where he works as a Facilities Management and Oversight Advisor in the Large Facilities Office. Dr. Weisend¡¯s research interests include He II, accelerator cryogenics and two-phase flow. He has led the Cryogenic Society of America (CSA)Short Course Program since 2001. He was given the 2003 Robert W. Vance Award by CSA. Dr. Weisend is a member of the Board of Directors of Cryogenic Society of America as well as a member of the International Cryogenic Engineering Conference Board and the Cryogenic Engineering Conference Board. He is Chief Technical Editor of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering. Dr. Weisend is the co-author (with N. Filina) of Cryogenic Two-Phase Flowand the editor of the Handbook of Cryogenic Engineering. He is currently writing a biography of Dr. Kurt Mendelssohn.
